United Way Campaign Heating Up!

Give where you live, give where you work, and keep it local!

Members of the Tipp City Area United Way Board of Directors are pictured above, from left to right, Pastor Jim Valekis, Dr. Charles Smith,

Kevin Turner, Mindy Benjamin, Deb Carr, Bill Moeller, Kitty Lobo, Gordon Honeyman, and Jesse Chamberlain.  Board members not pictured, Zachary Jacobs, Dr. Mary Bowman, Stanley Evans, Randy Hampton, Michael Winblad.

September 5, 2007:  Tipp City Area United Way’s 2007 Annual Campaign is underway and community support is needed to achieve our goal of $175,000.00.  Zachary Jacobs, Campaign Chair announced, “This year’s goal is significantly higher than last year’s goal.  While we are very pleased with last year’s accomplishments, the requests for funding well exceeded our campaign funds.  Last year we raise almost $140,000.00.  To achieve this year’s goal, we have re-dedicated our board to personally reach out into the community to partner with our local businesses and individuals.  With the increased support of our local businesses participating in the campaign, and offering payroll deductions, employees are provided with an easy way of contributing, while making a difference in the lives of others.  We will stretch to reach this higher goal, and hope with the generosity of our community we will be able to meet the increasing needs of our partner agencies.”

The thermometer signage that is used to display progress made towards our goal, has been placed at the lawn of Zion Lutheran Church located at the corner of Third and Main Street.  Fred’s Signs has prepared the thermometer for many years, and has donated countless hours providing United Way and our community with this public service – free of charge.  Deborah Carr, Executive Director stated, “We are very gratefully for Fred’s Signs services of helping us keep the community informed of our progress.  Bruce Haas (owner) has been a great support to our effort”

Your local United Way focuses on what matters most in the Tipp City area; programs that give children tools for success in life, support seniors, promote health and wellness, help adults attain personal self-sufficiency, provide basic human needs for those experiencing hard time or crises.  We support programs operated by trusted, local nonprofit organizations, and that’s why we are asking for you to give where you live, give where you work, and keep it local.

Bill Moeller, Co-Campaign Chair stated, “Last year, over an additional $41,000.00 was raised from outside employers’ campaigns throughout our area.  Although, many businesses here in the Tipp City area offer employee campaigns, many people do not realize, that even if you work outside the Tipp City, Monroe, and Bethel Township area, you can have your workplace donation or payroll deduction designated to Tipp City Area United Way.  The best thing about giving to your local United Way is that the dollars stay here locally to be invested in our community, helping friends and neighbors.  Every single donation counts, and makes a real difference.  Dollars raised in our campaign are critical to the agencies and programs we partner with.  Your support helps to keep these programs available, making our community a great place to live and work.”

If you work in the Dayton area and give through the United Way of the Greater Dayton Area the code number to designate your gift back to the Tipp City Area United Way is 1030.  Other United Way’s may ask you to write in the name of the United Way you want to designate your gift to.  The Combined Federal Campaign code number for the Tipp City Area United Way is 74512.

Together we can get results that no one person can accomplish alone and this unique partnership between community members, United Way, and local human services agencies achieves results that matter:

·       Community members can meet their basic needs – nutritional food, affordable housing, adequate seasonal clothing, and utility assistance.

·       Family members live, learn, work, and play in safe, empowering environments free of emotional and physical abuse.

·       Community members avoid or overcome chemical dependency.

·       Adults and Children have access to affordable medical care, prescription drugs, and mental health services.

·       Our youth have the skills and support needed to develop positive, healthy relationships, excel at learning, avoid drugs and alcohol, prepare for the workforce, and contribute to their community.

“The board has been working very hard to achieve this year’s goal, especially our Champaign Chair,  Zachary Jacobs.  I am so grateful to have individuals like Zack, who care enough to freely give their time and talents to help those less fortunate from our community,” stated Executive Director, Deborah Carr.

Tipp City Area United Way provides effective and efficient ways to meet the critical needs of those in our community.  Effective because we support a comprehensive network of 22 health and human services agencies right here in the Tipp City area.  Efficient because your investment – whatever the amount – when combined with contributions of others, will touch the lives of over 7,000 people from our area served by these programs.
