Health Park Dentistry and its founder Dr. Charles C. Smith have supported the Tipp City Area United Way in the past and certainly committed to this year’s campaign. Dr. Smith also served as the President from 1973—1975. My family has served Tipp City since the early 1920’s when my grandfather was superintendent of the Tipp schools. My father ran Smith’s Drug Store from the late 1930’s until the 1970’s and I have been a dentist here since 1970. During these 80+ years, my family has always been impressed with Tipp’s small town attitude of helping each other. This theme “Neighbor Helping Neighbor” is a perfect example of the caring attitude that Tipp has shown our family for over 80 years. In the past, this help came in an informal way. A house burned down. The family had food, clothing and shelter until they got back on their feet. No formal organizations. Usually no pictures or people taking credit for helping. The community just made sure their people were okay. Today, it’s our turn to continue this caring attitude to our friends and neighbors. Last century’s informal safety net has been replaced by 26 agencies, coordinated through United Way to help our neighbors. It’s so easy to take the wonderful quality of life we and our families have for granted. Once each year we have the opportunity to step up and make sure the lifestyle we love so much will continue for those who follow us. 2005 Honorary Chairperson Dr. Charles C. Smith
