How Your Local United Way Dollars Are Working Through Hospice

Pictured above are John and Eleanor Dinsmore.

The Tipp City Area United Way would like to share this story with you to let you know what impact your donations are making to your neighbors of Tipp City, Monroe, and Bethel Townships.

John and Eleanor Dinsmore are residents of Tipp City and members of the West Charleston Church of the Brethren and Tipp City Senior Citizens.  John also belongs to the Masonic Lodge #174, in Tipp City.

In August 2004, John was diagnosed with renal cancer.  They had their first contact with Hospice of Miami County in November 2004.  After talking with the Patient Care Coordinator, Noel Ranft, arrangements for admission to services were made.  They learned that Ginny Bosma, CHPN, would become their Hospice nurse to care for John and to give support to Eleanor, as John’s caregiver.

Eleanor relates, “During our first visit with Ginny, we learned that, along with providing nursing care for John, she would also become a “guardian angel” to help us through any situation that confronted us.  We look forward to her visits and phone calls each week.  Her smile, her caring personality, her professionalism, along with comments to brighten John’s days and get him to laugh is a real lift to us.  Her support and encouragement, when John would be feeling low, contributed to his regaining strength and us being able to travel together” Eleanor stated that because Hospice was involved early in the diagnosis, she feels comfortable talking with the hospice team about anything.

Eleanor continues, “We have always heard great things about Hospice.  Until we became a part of Hospice, we had no idea how much each one gives of themselves to bring laughter, cheer and happiness to individuals who are going through some really stressful times in their lives.”

Unfortunately, since this article was written John has passed away, but his wife, Eleanor has comforting thoughts of the dignity and comfort Hospice gave to them as John went through his struggle with cancer.  The gift you give through your contribution to the Tipp City Area United Way is truly a gift to others of our community.
