United Way Donations Helping Through Dream Builders

The Tipp City Area United Way strives to improve the lives of those less fortunate in our community and that cannot happen without your financial help.  As you read the story below, keep in mind the struggles our neighbors go through and how you can help make a difference.

Names have been changed to protect the family’s privacy:
John has been at Clubhouse for over 10 years and that's a long time since
John is only 16 years old.  He came to Clubhouse 2-3 days a week to get
help with his homework and to basically have a safe place to be after
school and in the summer.

His parents worked 6 days a week for most of his early years.  The family struggled to get by as they had no insurance and without high school degrees they found themselves working at low paying jobs.  A lot of their income went to the illnesses that the youngest boy Jeremy had and the severe diabetes of the mother.

John was a very social kid and loved getting attention from the Clubhouse teenagers who helped him with his homework.   They also helped him early on with his troubles in
reading.  John and his brother were provided with two free Clubhouse
computer systems over a five year time span. This was helpful so he could
be at home to do his homework and take care of his little brother plus the
systems had educational games to further his reading.

As John became a sixth grader he got involved with the 'teen in training' or TNT a Clubhouse program where sixth graders are mentored into becoming leaders of
themselves, others and in their faith.  John has been on four service trips
to learn more about how to meet needs of those less fortunate - serving in
homeless shelters and other community projects in Cincinnati and
Columbus.  John loved hanging out with two specific teens and to this day
they are still extremely close contacting them often for advice.

When John was a seventh grader he helped 1-2 days each week at the Clubhouse leading small groups of children like he once was.  John was always available to
help at the 48 hour camps and helped recruit new children in his
neighborhood to participate in Clubhouse.  In the past few years his
parents have struggled with getting a divorce and now John has moved out of
state with his mom.

Clubhouse provided John with countless hours of challenging faith based activities, hands on leadership development, tutoring and affirmation from others to dream dreams of what John was created to become.  John then became a model to others and invested back into his neighborhood through Clubhouse.

You too can make an investment in your neighborhood through the Tipp City Area United Way.  Please send your contribution to: Deborah Carr, Tipp City Area United Way, P.O.
